Traditionally, tongue and lip ties have been addressed by cutting with a scissor, or scalpel. Utilizing a laser to revise lip and tongue ties reduces some of the risks involved during the procedure when compared to more traditional techniques. As an added benefit, a laser usually shortens the time it takes for the areas to heal. There is little to no bleeding involved due to the cauterizing action of the laser, and the risk of infection is reduced dramatically. While using a laser, the risk of an inadvertent cut or damage to surrounding tissue is minimized due to extremely precise control and the lack of a cutting edge.
